If you're having trouble with your toilet or drains, you may be able to resolve the problem on your own.

Toilets

If your toilet becomes clogged, use a plunger to push the blockage through the pipes. If you need to flush the toilet, only do so once. Multiple flushes could cause the toilet to overflow.

Pipe Clogs

If your sink or bathtub isn't draining properly, there is likely a clog in the line. You can also use a plunger to move a clog out by pushing it over the drainage hole and pumping vigorously.

Do not use chemicals like Draino in your pipes, as these may cause permanent damage to the system.

If you lose electrical power in your property, call your utility provider for help. If there is a local problem, your company will be able to provide relevant information. Such problems may include felled lines or bad weather.

If your property is the only on your street impacted, locate your circuit breaker and make sure it's flipped to the ON position.

If you don't have access to hot water, locate your tank and check that the settings are accurate. Some hot water heaters have a vacation mode, which may limit the amount of water available to you.

Try to reset the tank and wait at least 20 minutes before testing the water temperature.

If your heat or air conditioning isn't working properly, check your main thermostat settings. If you continue to have problems, contact your utility company to make sure your account is up to date.
